Our IDC is designed to provide you with the knowledge, skills, and confidence to become a PADI Open Water Scuba Instructor (OWSI). You’ll receive personalized instruction and hands-on training that will prepare you for a successful career as a scuba diving instructor.

From IDC to senior instructor levels

Instructor Development Course (IDC)

Become a professional dive educator.

Learn the teaching skills, standards, and communication techniques that prepare you to confidently guide students in both pool and open-water environments.

Our IDC blends real-world practice with Komodo’s unique conditions, giving you the experience and adaptability you need to thrive as a PADI Instructor anywhere.

The essential foundation for progressing to the Instructor Exam and earning your OWSI rating.

Instructor Exam (IE)

Demonstrate your readiness as a PADI Professional.

Across two days of evaluations, you’ll teach in confined and open water, complete dive theory exams, and showcase the skills you’ve refined during IDC.

Held in a structured, supportive format, the IE confirms you’re prepared to step into instructor-level leadership with confidence.

Passing the IE is your final milestone before becoming a certified Open Water Scuba Instructor.

Open Water Scuba Instructor (OWSI)

Where you become a teacher.

The OWSI rating qualifies you to teach the full range of PADI core courses — from Discover Scuba Diving all the way through Divemaster.

This package includes everything in the IDC except the Instructor Exam (paid directly to PADI).

Master Scuba Diver Trainer (MSDT)

Build your instructor toolkit.

An MSDT is an instructor trained to teach at least five specialties — making you more employable and much more versatile.

This pathway helps fast-track your teaching confidence and meet the requirements for higher pro levels.

IDC Staff Instructor

Train the next generation of instructors.

For experienced instructors who want to step into mentorship and leadership roles. You’ll learn to evaluate IDC candidates and support our Course Director during instructor development.

A required step if you’re moving toward Master Instructor or Course Director.

Prerequisites

• Minimum age: 18 years old
• Minimum dives: 100 logged dives
• Certified as a Divemaster with current EFR certification
• Healthy and fit for diving
• Complete the PADI medical form and visit a doctor before diving
